WHY WE EXIST: Monastery of the Ordinary is a contemplative community that exists to cultivate a shared dream of the Kingdom of the Heavens that is rooted in the boundless love of God in Christ, and we seek to see this dream actualized and embodied in the world.
KEY DISTINCTIVES:
- We aim to cultivate a contemplative approach to life that will serve to unlock the creative potential of ordinary people who want to make a difference in the world.
- We are an egalitarian faith community where the poor, women, minorities, and LGBTQ individuals are honored both as members and leaders at the monastery.
- We believe in the coming of creation’s Jubilee, which is its total liberation. Because of this we believe that creation care is integral to the realization of the Kingdom of the Heavens on earth. So, we will avidly seek to direct our efforts for the good of humanity by focusing on efforts to confront poverty and to care for those who struggle with illnesses. Likewise, we will also seek to involve ourselves in work that cares for our environment and that promote ecological health.

As the founder, I have an interest in seeing this kind of community brought into the world, I am far less interested in running it all myself than I am in cultivating a core team who will help shape the overall direction of the Monastery and help carry its mission into the world. My sense is it will take several creative people who are like minded, and willing to help make this happen.
